There are natural forces that we perceive but can’t see and yet we need to create images to describe them.

These images help us organise our understanding of the world, plan for it, respond to it. Even the most invisible of things we need to make images for. Forces, flows, contagion.

In these paintings I try to find analogous forms and feelings. These evolve in the painter’s language of line and edge, colour and tone, transparency and opacity. The abstract compositions are stages on which to describe tension, movement, space and intensity.

These paintings were developed after drawings and prints and evolved along a painterly lineage of their own
